Winter Comes To The Strip This August (13-Jul-08)

Impressive ski and snowboard performances on a purpose built structure right in the middle of Christchurch will provide exciting spectator action for Strip visitors on Saturday 9th August 2008.
Export Gold is to present the 2nd Annual SkullCandy Winter Rail Jam - billed as the biggest Rail Jam ever to hit the streets of Christchurch.
Around 100 freestyle skiers and snowboarders are expected to take part in the event which offers prizes valued at more than $5,500 for top tricks and aerials as judged by an expert panel.
Snow is being shipped into the Strip (Oxford Terrace) from Mt Hutt to cover a 4.5m high structure for the event. Top freestyle entrants will launch themselves down the ramp to perform for spectators and judges.
Dj Sticky Fingaz. will provide the soundtrack while MC Mana from New Zealand band Rhombus will host the event. $2,500 worth of prizes are up for grabs by spectators with the main prize going to the spectator in the best retro ski outfit. Project Legit and local Grafitti artist Decypher will conduct a graffiti demonstration.
Oxford Terrace will be closed from Lichfield Street to Hereford Street all day on Saturday 9th August 2008 to allow heats and activities to start from 2.30pm. Practice runs for the main competition start at 5.30pm. Local Djs Nacoa and Shortkutz will be on hand to provide music for the heats and practice runs.
The event is free to attend however competitors will pay a registration fee of $20 to ride. They can register by visiting www.540s.com or register on the day at 2pm in time for the heats at 2.30pm.
Export Gold presents the Skullcandy Winter Rail Jam in association with Jagermeister, 540s Snowboarding, Demon Energy and The Christchurch City Council on Saturday 9th August 2008 on The Strip.
