What's New At Panorama For Winter 2008/09 (12-Aug-08)

Panorama Mountain Village, B.C. - Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 - Last winter was crammed with World Cup Races

Last winter was crammed with World Cup Races, epic snow days, park and pipe events, and wonderful spring skiing. With the return of winter, skiers and boarders will notice several enhancements on and off the mountain, all aimed at making their stay at Panorama even better.

For the first time, U.S. travelers will have fast and convenient access to Panorama Mountain Village and British Columbia’s Powder Highway. From December 17th, 2008, Delta Airlines will fly three times a week direct from Salt Lake City to the new Canadian Rockies International Airport, in Cranbrook, B.C. From there, it’s a short drive to Panorama. Check for fares and more information.

At a time when other resorts in the region have eliminated jumps and “air” from their freestyle terrain, Panorama is going BIG! This coming season, freestylers will ‘Showoff’ in a terrain park that is almost one mile long. In full view of
Panorama’s slopeside village and the Mile 1 Quad, the park will be the biggest and best in the Canadian Rockies region.

“This season, we’re going to make a huge change to our terrain park and build it on Showoff directly under the Mile 1 Quad.  Not only will you be able to watch the show from the Great Hall Deck, but when you are riding the lift it will seem like our outstanding local riders and visiting pros are flying overhead”, explains Kirby Brown, President and Chief Operating Officer. “This park will give high-end freestylers terrain to match their skills, but will also be about progression. We want to build a terrain park where anyone who is inclined can gradually build up their skills and experience the thrills that park riding brings”.

For many people, a visit to Panorama Mountain Village is their first time on skis or a snowboard. New for the 2008/09 season, Panorama has enlarged the beginners area, installed a brand new 135 metre magic carpet (replacing the handle-tow), and introduced programs to enable those new to the mountains and the sport to just get up and go.

Panorama has long been known for outstanding grooming on Canada’s longest uninterrupted fall-line cruisers and continues to focus on the quality of the snow surface. This year grooming will be extended to the Founder’s Ridge area, opening even more terrain for intermediate skiers and riders.

Panorama Mountain Village is off-setting travel costs by offering lift and lodging discounts of up to $120 per night. This year, skiers and riders are encouraged to plan and book early to maximize their savings. Book a stay in any unit type in September or October and save up to 35%. Wait until November and the saving is 25%, that’s $90 per night when 2 people stay in a Gold studio and ski for one day. For December reservations, the saving is still 15%. There are no minimum or maximum stay requirements and the savings apply to all Panorama Mountain Village lodging. Book by October 31st, 2008, for the BEST deals of the season.

Outdoor adventures specifically catering to women are on the rise and Panorama offers a variety of women’s only programming. New this year, moms and daughters can enjoy yoga, nail painting, masks, and some quality time together with Ladies Night Out programming just for the girls.

Panorama Mountain Village is committed to responsible environmental action. The innovative Intrawest Project Planet initiative has been in place for several years; this winter the resort goes one step further. All Panorama common areas will be cleaned with environmentally friendly products, faucets and toilets in public washrooms are being converted to low-flow, and washrooms are now stocked with 100% recycled papers.

Snow will start to fall at Panorama Mountain Village in October. By November, the Canadian Alpine Ski Team will be joined by some of the world’s best racers to train on World Cup runs Old Timer and Hay Fever. For the latest news from Panorama Mountain Village, check
