The resorts in Västra Götaland County - over in the west of Sweden - are best suited to families getting to grips with that weird sensation of sliding uncontrollably and falling over a lot. And if you'd rather do that without other skiers and riders buzzing around you, then you should feel pretty relaxed here.

 

The downhill on offer in each of the five-or-so resorts is limited to a handful of runs and lifts, and a vertical of around 100 metres - in short, nothing too tiring. If you do fancy working up a bit of a sweat and venturing out on the flat, Ulricehamn has 230 cross-country trails - more than enough to get lost on.
