Team 540s riders Maia Stier and Paula Mitchell are among an impressive line up confirmed to ride in this Saturday’s 2nd Annual SkullCandy Winter Rail Jam presented by Export Gold.

The jam is to be held in the heart of Christchurch’s entertainment district with a massive structure to be constructed on the Strip and snow trucked in from Mt Hutt.

Maia (Turoa and Snow Park rider has been placed 1st in Junior Nationals) and Paula (Wanaka rider and member of the NZ development team) will join a field of around 100 freestyle skiers and boarders to take part in the Jam.

“This event will be a whole lot of fun for spectators as well as the riders,” says organiser Jaclyn Philpott. “It’s the biggest rail jam ever to hit the streets of Christchurch and DJ Sticky Fingaz will turn the tunes as MC Mana from Rhombus will be our MC.”

Prizes are valued at more than $5,500 and will be distributed by a panel of judges who’ll rate top tricks and aerials.  And spectators can pick up $2,500 worth of prices throughout the evening with the main prize going to the spectator in the best retro ski outfit.   Project Legit and local Grafitti artist Decypher will conduct a graffiti demonstration.

During the Jam, riders will climb a 4.5 m structure before launching themselves down a ramp and onto the rail.

Oxford Terrace will be closed from Lichfield Street to Hereford Street all day on Saturday 9th August 2008 to allow heats and activities to start from 2.30pm.  Practice runs for the main competition start at 5.30pm. Local Djs Nacoa and Shortkutz will be on hand to provide music for the heats and practice runs.

The event is free to attend however competitors will pay a registration fee of $20 to ride. They can register by visiting www.540s.com or register on the day at 2pm in time for the heats at 2.30pm.

Export Gold presents the Skullcandy Winter Rail Jam in association with Jagermeister, 540s Snowboarding, Demon Energy and The Christchurch City Council on Saturday 9th August 2008 on The Strip.
