Even if Tennessee had the Rockies running through it and a snow record to beat all others, the state would still probably be better known as the home of country music than for its hardcore action above the snow line.
Tennessee does have some reasonable height - over 2,000 metres (about 6,561 feet) in fact. Winters here are cool however, rather than cold, and snowfall is less predictable than states further north, or on the west coast.
Ober Gatlinburg ski resort and amusement park - in the Smoky Mountains - is the only ski resort in Tennessee. It has a handful of runs and 38 acres of skiiable terrain, served by 3 lifts. With a maximum vertical of 182 metres (600 feet), thigh burn isn't likely to be a problem.
However, there's night skiing and snowmaking and good access to Knoxville an hour away, so it's easy enough to get up here for a few hours at the weekend. There is also an indoor ice arena at the resort.
