St Gallen borders the canton of Glarus to the south and Lichtenstein and shares a similar landscape - the mountains here peak at just over 3,000 metres.
The biggest resort in the area is Toggenburg - which is actually serviced by three villages below - Alt St Johann, Unterwasser and Wildhaus. The villages all lie at about 1,000 metres which isn't high by any standards, but with a vertical drop here of nearly 1,600 metres and plenty of on- and off-piste terrain, at least you're getting plenty of hill for your money. Nearby Flumserberg can only muster up half the drop but with the only eight-person chair in Switzerland, you can be sure of getting in a few extra runs. Flumserberg also boasts a half pipe and a huge snow park.
