Harrietville

An Ideal Holiday Destination for Everyone

Harrietville offers an ideal year round holiday destination. This picturesque mountain village is situated approximately 25 km from Bright in Victoria and lays alongside the Great Alpine Road. It is the last town before Mount Hotham and is an historic goldmining town, settled in 1852.

Harrietville offers a range of accommodation to suit all budget types from hotels & motels to self contained apartments & units. An ideal holiday destination for families and couples, Harrietville is a great base during the winter for people wishing to visit the nearby Victorian ski fields such as Mount Hotham but want to stay off the mountain. With Falls Creek within driving distance too you can get the best of both ski fields!

Harrietville was properly named in 1861 after a woman called Harriet Tisdale, one of the few white women living in this area at the time. In 1879 Harrietville was proclaimed a town. Its history is captured in a riverside park that celebrates the local pioneers, and is a pleasant spot to picnic or stretch your legs. There are lots of great places for lunch or a leisurely afternoon tea. If you’re properly equipped and fit, you can take the walking tracks to Mount Hotham or Mount Feathertop, which are challenging but spectacular.

Harrietville currently thrives on tourism and the ski industry and is definitely a beautiful township providing a relaxing and ideal holiday destination. With a diverse range of accommodation combined with a wide range of temperatures during the different seasons, Harrietville is one place you will enjoy experiencing more than once and through each of the different seasons. One of the best holiday destinations for everyone; take the time to explore Harrietville in Victoria's Great Alpine Valleys.
