Mozart is, oh, at least four and a half times as famous in Salzburg as anyone to do with skiing. But as it happens, the hills in this region are also alive with the sound of popping carbon fibre and sharpened edges.
Of the twenty-or-so resorts in the region, Zell-am-See (in the Salzkammergut area bordering Upper Austria) is one of the more unusual, thanks to its lake-side location. It's lower in altitude than many of its rivals too, but with a pumping nightlife and year-round glacier skiing at neighbouring Kaprun, remains hugely popular. The resorts are fairly small in Salzburg Land, but the terrain is still challenging and there's some fantastic off-piste up for grabs.
