Broken River Location
Getting There
Broken River is located in the Craigieburn Range, part of the Southern Alps, 110 kms and 90 minutes drive west of Christchurch. It is easily accessible by car.
The 6 km unsealed access road climbs gently through pristine native beech forest. Park in the carpark at the base of the new passenger carrier. This is a new service they are offering this year. Alternatively, if you would like a good warm up, put your gear on the lift and take a 20 minute walk up through the beautiful native beech forest to the top of the lift and the accommodation lodges.
By Plane
Christchurch International Airport is 110 km west of Broken River. From there you can hire a car or arrange to be driven to Broken River by one of the three local transport operators who transport people to the Club fields.
By Car
The drive from Christchurch takes about one and half hours. Take highway 73 west through Darfield and enjoy the striking view of the Southern Alps. Once over Porters Pass you are amongst the mountains. The signposted turn off to Broken River is 5 km further on from Castle Hill village.
Other Transport
Three independent operators provide transport to Broken River. You will need to book in advance for this service.
