On-mountain facilities

Broken River offers real mountain-style accommodation. Save fuel and stay a while - there is no reason to move on when you are in paradise! There is a choice of three lodges ranging from backpackers, "club style" with shared duties, to fully-catered. The lodges are nestled in the edge of the native forest at treeline and all have fantastic views of the surrounding mountains and valley below. Two of the three lodges provide dinner and breakfast as part of the overnight package. Don't forget to check out the sauna!

Drinks and lunch food are available for sale on the field at Palmer Day Lodge. There is also a communal kitchen and BBQ for preparing your own food at Palmer Lodge. Keep a close eye on your lunch as the cheeky native kea may fly off with your sandwiches!

If you need a break from the snow curl up in the lodge with a good book. There also are a number of 1 -2 hour forests walks down in the valley below. Alternatively, take a short drive and explore the Kura Tawhiti Limestone rocks in the Castle Hill Basin. These rocks are famous for their stunning shapes and good bouldering.
