BC and Alberta may have a natural height advantage, but Ontario hasn't let that stand in its way. Not only can it lay claim to the world's tallest building (which, at 553 metres, isn't far shy of the highest mountain in the province) and the Niagara Falls, but it has over 50 ski resorts dotted around the province.

The largest of these is only an hour north of Toronto, which not only means weekend skiing and boarding is possible, but pretty decent too. There are 34 trails, a massive lift capacity, two half pipes and the best vertical descent in the province. Other resorts can be found nearby too, within spitting distance of Ottawa, as well as Toronto. Further north, where it's technically sub-arctic, the snow can stick around as long as May, but it's more of a hike to get there.
