With most of its land still dedicated to farming and ranching, North Dakota's image is one of wide open spaces rather than snow-covered peaks. But while there may not be much here in the way of height, the state borders Canada to the north and winters are cold.
Of the ski resorts in North Dakota, Huff Hills has the biggest vertical (122 metres or 400 feet), 80 acres and 16 runs. Others include Bottineau Winter Park, Frost Fire, Bear's Den Mountain and Fort Ransom - all relatively small resorts with between nine and 21 runs.
