Snow reporting agency www.Skiinfo.co.uk has reported that nearly another 1.5m (five feet) of snow in the past week has left Mammoth Mountain in USA with more than three metres (10 feet) of snow lying.

The famous Californian resort now has the most snow in North America and is third in the world behind the Italian glacier Passo Tonale which has a 4.2m (14 foot) base but measures snow accumulated year round, and another Italian resort of Pejo.

A snow storm a week before Lake Tahoe in California’s Alpine Meadows ski resort opened for the season left 8.5 feet (2.5m) of new snow at mid mountain making it the largest single storm to be recorded in November in the resort’s history.

“The mountain changed literally overnight,” said Rachael Woods, spokesperson for Alpine Meadows Ski Resort. “We’re thrilled with the snow conditions.
