The world’s best snowboarders will converge on Saas-Fee in late October for the opening events of the competitive season outdoors in the Northern Hemisphere.
The FIS Freestyle Ski European Cup and the FIS Snowboard European Cup will take place from 24 to 27 October. The FIS Snowboard World Cup follows a week later, from 31 October to 3 November.
This year the competitors will be joined by big names from the world of freeskiing.

With the Swiss franc running at record highs against other currencies, Swiss ski resorts are in many cases anticipating a difficult season. However resorts are taking steps to make costs less eye- watering for non Swiss nationals, and Verbier is one of the first to announce its strategy.

Saas Fee will begin its long 2011-12 season on Saturday July 9th when its glacier terrain up to 3,600m high opens for skiers and boarders. It will be open through to May 2012 with the rest of its ski area opening next Spring.
The resort offers 22km of varied glacial ski slopes with a major terrain park all of which attract various campers as well as the Swiss and international ski teams who spend their summer enjoying glacier training sessions.
The AllalThe British Freeski Camps 2011 are running...
The British Freeski Camps 2011 are running from the 9th July to 6th August in Saas Fee. The camps are open to all ages and standards and will be focused on making freestyle and freeride skiing more available to recreational skiers and ski instructors that want to learn tricks and push their skiing to the limit.
The camps are also home to the athletes of the British Freestyle Ski Team and will be working as a training base for FIS World Cup and Sochi 2014 Olympic training.

The summer ski season on Europe’s highest slopes will begin above on both the Italian and Swiss slopes of the Plateau Rosà glacier in two weeks time.
Although the Swiss-side, accessed from Zermatt, is open year round, the slopes accessed from Cervinia on the Italian side, is open in Summer from late June to early September only.

A massive 140 million Swiss Franc ($160/£100m) development installing 18 new ski lifts between two famous Swiss resorts to create one of the country’s and the world’s biggest ski areas has been announced.
The plan to link Andermatt and Sedrun’s skiing will be carried forward by the Scandinavian ski resort developers SkiStar who currently run five of the top resorts in Norway and Sweden, including Are and Hemsedal.

New Zealand’s Maria Kuzma was the top snowboarder at yesterday’s Nendaz Freeride, a four star Freeride World Qualifier and the sixth of eight stops on the women’s 2011 Freeride World Tour while her twin sister, Janina, also saw the podium placing second in women’s skiing. Both now qualify for the finals in Verbier.The event went down surprisingly well despite low snow conditions.
