CALGARY, AB (November 12, 2008) - Nakiska Ski Area has been designated a national training centre
Nakiska Ski Area has been designated a national training centre by Alpine Canada Alpin, which will also use the famed 1988 Winter Games resort as a major staging site for Canada’s medal hopefuls in advance of the 2010 Olympics.
The Alberta resort, where Canadian Karen Percy Lowe won two Olympic medals in 1988, will also continue to be used as a pre-season training facility in advance of upcoming World Cup seasons as part of a seven-year partnership signed

WHISTLER, BC, October 20, 2008 – The snow has really started to fly at Whistler Blackcomb
The snow has really started to fly at Whistler Blackcomb with approximately five centimetres falling overnight and more expected in the forecast today and later this week. With the countdown on to opening day, this is exciting news in the resort.
The Environment Canada Alpine Forecast is calling for a snowfall accumulation of between five and 10 centimetres today with the freezing level hovering between 900 and 1,100 metres.
Panorama Mountain Village, B.C. — The weather conditions at Panorama are just right
The weather conditions at Panorama are just right – cold and dry, which means that snowmaking for the 2008/09 winter season is underway ahead of schedule.
Panorama is able to make snow on 40% of its vast terrain and this morning the system is working at capacity on Showoff and Old Timer, pumping out the white-stuff, which in some places is already one-metre deep.

Whistler Blackcomb has fired up its fleet of snow guns in anticipation of the upcoming winter season. 40 automated guns, of 269 total snow guns, have turned on as the freezing level started to creep down the mountains. The official opening day for Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains is November 27, 2008.
