Perisher Starts Snowmaking (06-May-09)

Perisher, Australia, May 6, 2009 - With a month to go until the start of the 2009

With a month to go until the start of the 2009 winter season at Perisher Blue in Australia, the resort is celebrating both 50cm (20 inches) of natural snow, an unprecedented pre-season snowfall, which has been followed by the start of snowmaking at the area.

“Due to cold overnight temperatures snowmaking has commenced earlier than scheduled.

Australian Snowfields, May 4, 2009 - Over half-a-metre (20 inches) of snow has been falling

Over half-a-metre (20 inches) of snow has been falling on Australia’s ski slopes over the past 48 hours, with most still not expecting to open for nearly six weeks or more. 

Snow continues to fall at Perisher in New South Wales. From the peaks to the valleys, a thick layer of snow can be found, making the resort look more like July than April. Another 25cm (10 inches) of snow settled across the upper elevations on Monday night, April 27th.

Perisher, NSW, April 29, 2009 - The first snow of 2009 has arrived at Perisher...

The first snow of 2009 has arrived at Perisher! About 5cm of fresh snow has fallen in the Village (which sits at 1,720 metres) overnight transforming the landscape into a wintry paradise and the snow continues to fall.

Temperatures dropped to as low as -5°C allowing the snow to settle and accumulate. The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting scattered snow showers to continue throughout the rest of today and into Monday and Tuesday.

Winter is on the way at Charlotte Pass Ski Resort, with the resort receiving the first
snowfalls this morning for 2009.

Over 10cm’s of snow* has fallen at Charlotte Pass, and it’s still snowing.
Temperatures dropped to a chilly -5°C overnight and at 10am this morning were
still hovering around -3°C.

The resort has invested $5.7 million dollars this year with new snowmaking covering the Happy Valley area and top to bottom on Towers Run on Mt Perisher as part of Perisher's three-year $19 million dollar investment in snowmaking upgrades.

Perisher, NSW, September 21, 2008 -  Perisher Blue is cruising through its 16th week

Perisher Blue is cruising through its 16th week of what has been an amazing season both on and off the slopes. 17cm of snow settled in the Resort on Monday 15 September bringing the total to 28cm since the beginning of September. Amazingly, more snow is predicted for later today! These snowfalls coupled with a good base have made for great springtime skiing and snowboarding, which should remain right up until the end of the season on Monday 6 October 2008.
