Breckenridge, Colorado, January 12, 2009 - Wanaka freeskier Byron Wells has matched

Wanaka freeskier Byron Wells has matched his brother Jossi’s record as the youngest athlete ever invited to the Winter X Games.

Following a successful 2008 Southern Hemisphere campaign and a strong start to the 2008-2009 Northern Hemisphere season, Byron, 16, was given the nod this week by X-Games officials in North America.

Jossi, 18, was the first Kiwi invited to the competition, and last year he made it pay off, winning a silver medal in the slopestyl

Korea, World Snowboarding Championships, Jan. 11, 2009 - The Winter Olympics may be another two years away

The Winter Olympics may be another two years away but for snowboard enthusiasts Korea will be the place to be from 14-24 January for the fun and excitement of the 2009 FIS Snowboard World Championships.

It will be the first time for the championships to be held in an Asian country and for Korea it will be one of the largest winter sporting events ever held in the country attracting over 1,200 participants from fifty countries.

New Zealand’s top snowboarders and freeskiers got off to a flying start in the northern hemisphere this weekend, posting two top-10 results, including a podium finish by New Zealand’s number one freeskier, Jossi Wells.

Wells finished second in the slopestyle event of the Dew Tour at Breckenridge, Colorado (USA).

The British Columbia Safety Authority (BCSA), BC’s independent auditor on passenger ropeway systems, has given approval for Whistler Blackcomb to continue regular operations on its mountain lifts, with the exception of the Excalibur Gondola.

“Preliminary inspection by BC safety officers has determined that this was an isolated incident of water contamination in a tower tube which caused a tower joint flange to fail due to ice jacking,” said Greg Pad

We are skiing and riding on Old Timer, Showoff and Horseshoe on the Mile 1 Quad, Beginner and Highway 1 in the novice area, Eagle Glide and Hoggs Flats on the Toby Chair, Skyline and World Cup Way on the Champagne Express, and Getmedown on the Summit Quad.
