Formigal, in the Spanish Pyrenees is currently offering free lift passes for all new reservations this season and is receiving more heavy snowfalls which began earlier this week.

The latest dumps, which are predicted to last all week, come on top of weeks of snowfalls which have left the resort with depths of more than two metres.

Throughout Easter Week, eggs will be hidden around Formigal, both on the slopes and in the village.

The centre stopped operating lifts and accommodation yesterday (Wednesday 4 March) due to a combination of overdue loan repayments, limited credit, falling demand for property and unpaid bills.

Ski resorts along North America’s West Coast from Mammoth to Whistler are reporting big snowfalls in the past week.

Mammoth Mountain in California was just hit by a massive winter storm that has been hammering the Eastern Sierra with snow since Sunday, March 1. The majority of the storm has passed, but not before the US National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the area.

A structural failure on tower four of Spain’s Sierra Nevada’s Emille Allais chairlift caused a major incident on Monday Morning (March 2nd).

Six chairs dropped approximately six metres, hitting the ground and injuring 23 people after the top section of the tower on one side – the section over which the cable runs – gave way.
