Spring is a season of transitions at Whistler Blackcomb. From powder to parties during the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival April 17-26; and from boards to bikes when the Whistler Mountain Bike Park opens May 16; spring is the season for adventure hedonists.
A frontal system has been pounding the West Coast for the last week, resulting in 102cm/40” of fresh powder snow in the last seven days and another 45cm forecasted through to Monday.

Glencoe, Scotland, March 19, 2009 - Scotland's original ski centre has been put on the market again
Scotland’s original ski centre has been put on the market again, reportedly in an attempt to find an investor who would look at funding a gondolas lift to replace the aged chair and make the centre more viable as a year round attraction.
The idea matches the successful route of Cairngorm at Aviemore and Nevis range near Fort William, both of which attract more summer than winter visitors with their funicular and gondola lifts.

New Zealand, March 19, 2009 - New Zealand's Ruapehu has reported fresh snow
New Zealand’s Ruapehu has reported fresh snow last week.
It was 3.7 degrees in Ohakune on Thursday morning, March 12th, and Ruapehu was blanketed in a cover of fresh white snow.
At the same time it was 1 degree at Turoa’s base area with 2 – 3 cm’s of light dry snow lying around.
Sierra Nevada, Spain, March 19, 2009 - Reports that Spain's leading resort
Reports that Spain’s leading resort, Sierra Nevada, will offer half price ski tickets after the Easter holidays and have announced that the season will last for an extra fortnight to at least mid-May because of all the snow.
The resort, Europe’s most southerly, currently has five metres (17 feet) of snow on its slopes and 100km (63 miles) of piste open.

Young Wanaka Freeskier Beau–James Wells, 13, has taken his first triumph of the year, making the podium at the Freestyle Junior Olympics in Waterville Valley, Hew Hampshire, yesterday.
Competing in the 14 and under age-class, Wells placed equal first in Halfpipe and equal second in Slopestyle.
The event is the pinnacle competition for junior freeskiers in the USA where competitors are invited to compete in each age group over five discipline

The Second Annual Video Wars invaded Mountain High last week with Peter Para taking home top honors for Best Photo, while Mikey Radziwon and Matt Ybarra tied for Best Rider. Craig Glover scored double honors with “Simple Failures,” winning Best Video and Viewer's Choice, as voted by an animated crowd of videographers, riders, photographers, friends, and family at the Second Annual Video Wars After Party.
