After a month or so of rapidly thawing snow on the glaciers of the Alps, snow storms descended at the weekend bringing powder conditions.

Marmot Lift. For the winter of 2011-2012 JHMR adds the Marmot chairlift – a double chair that will carry skiers and snowboarders 1200 vertical feet from South Pass Traverse, below the existing Thunder Lift, to the top of the Gondola. The Marmot Lift will significantly improve the skier flow across the mountain, making it easier than ever before to travel not just up and down the mountain, but also across.

Snowmaking facilities at Hemsedal, Norway’s leading ski centre, are set to be expanded again this winter.
By the beginning of the 2011/2012 season, two more of the resort’s slopes will have snow guns, and slopes with artificial snow as a base will increases by 17% to just over 21 km.
The slopes are Veslebreidalen (slope 16) from the top of Tinden, and Holdeskarløypa (slope 32) will get snow guns this season.

Mont Sutton in Eastern Canada received three awards at the Quebec Ski Area Association (ASSQ) annual convention. The awards were for environment and sustainable development, development program for new skiers / promoting loyalty within a target clientele and finally, successful manager.
Since its creation in 1960, Mont Sutton has become well known for its respect of the environment and concern for the preservation of nature.

Les 2 Alpes summer ski area is staging a ‘Snow Electro Fest’ from 28 - 30 July.
Described as, “a fun weekend at Les 2 Alpes with freestyle skiing and snowboard competitions and an electro-music DJ at 3,600m above sea level it will be a real festival on Les 2 Alpes glacier.” by a resort spokesperson, the Electro Fest will take advantage of the facilities available until late August at one of the world’s largest summer ski areas.

Australia is enjoying its snowiest start to the season for decades and at the country’s largest ski area, Perisher, the official snow depth measured by Snowy Hydro at Spencer's Creek is now at 158.9cm, the highest it's been at this time of the season since 1990.
Although all Australian resorts are also doing well for snow, Perisher is crediting the regional
investment in cloud seeding for making the snow cover even better than it would have been
