Snow Hunter's Snow News, July 22, 2008 - The first IDE snowmaking machine has been assembled and tested in Israel

The first IDE snowmaking machine has been assembled and tested in Israel prior to shipment to the Alps. The Snowmaker is capable to produce 950 cubic meters of snow per day. Snowmaking took place east of Netanya, Israel, under summer conditions (ambient temperature above 30 C) during the second week of July. Israeli skiers enjoyed skiing on the ski slope at the test site.

For sale: Ski equipment at the Mountain House.

It's the end of a long and slippery slope for Mt Taranaki's only ski hire business. Ski hire began at the Stratford Mountain House 70 years ago and is being sold up and closed down by the resort's new owner, German businessman Karl Reipen.

He says the equipment is old and worn out and he's not prepared to risk being blamed for personal injury by hirers.

Not for the faint of heart nor the short of breath, Fernie Alpine Resort will introduce its newest challenge race on Saturday, July 26th, the “Lost Boys Lungbuster Uphill Mountain Bike Hill Climb”.

The race will start in the base area, at an elevation of 1,068 metres (3,500feet). Riders will make their way up the Timber side of the mountain, finishing the race at Lost Boys Café, located at an elevation of 1,726 metres (5,662 feet).
