Lake Wanaka – Staff at Snow Sports New Zealand are busy gearing up for the Southern Hemisphere winter, with some new initiatives in place and excitement for the upcoming season.

With the commitment last week by Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC) to continue its investment in the National Sport Organisation (NSO) for the next three years, Snow Sports NZ is able to move forward very positively.

The summer ski season on Europe’s highest slopes...

The summer ski season on Europe’s highest slopes will begin above on both the Italian and Swiss slopes of the Plateau Rosà glacier in two weeks time.

Although the Swiss-side, accessed from Zermatt, is open year round, the slopes accessed from Cervinia on the Italian side, is open in Summer from late June to early September only.

Breckenridge, one of the six ski areas owned by Vail Resorts, aims to add 550 acres of terrain on Peak 6.

More details of a planned new ski resort in Azerbaijan have been unveiled when the oil-rich nation recently staged the 2011 Ajerbaijan International Travel and Tourism Fair.

The country’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, personally overseen by President Ilham Aliyev has taken on the task of building a world class alpine ski resort called Shahdag.

Located in the Caucasus mountain below Shahdag peak (4243 m), the resort will operate 10 lifts serving 17 slop
