Iceland’s small and basic Kerlingarfjöll ski area has stopped offering snow sports because of climate change.
In 1961 local tourism pioneer like Valdimar Örnólfsson examined the possibility of building a ski resort in Kerlingarfjöll, which lead to the establishment of company Fannborg ehf in 1963 after agreements had been signed with authorities of Hrunamannahreppur, allowing the use of the area.
