Queenstown’s Coronet Peak ski area celebrated its opening day today (Thursday June 30) with bubbles and cheers, as up to 400 keen skiers and snowboarders waited for the first lifts to open at 9am.

Ski area staff were delighted to be told today (June 30) that The Remarkables ski area in Queenstown will open at 9am on Saturday (July 2) for the 2011 winter season.
Following the successful opening of its sister ski area Coronet Peak today, The Remarkables will also open with limited beginner, novice and intermediate terrain.

Queenstown’s Coronet Peak ski area will open tomorrow (Thursday June 30) for the 2011 winter season thanks to the hard work of its snowmaking and grooming teams.
The ski area will open at 9am with limited beginner, novice and intermediate terrain available. Trails can be accessed from the Coronet Express and Meadows Express chairlifts, and two conveyor lifts.

Lake Wanaka, New Zealand -- June 29, 2011 -- Snow Park NZ is set to be the first ski and snowboard area in the Southern Lakes to open for the 2011 season, with opening scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday June 30th.
Cold temperatures allowing for top-to-bottom snowmaking have transformed Snow Park NZ during the past week, and permitted snowmakers and the Snow Park NZ on-mountain operations staff to prepare the popular box run for Snow Park’s initial opening.

What is believed to be a record 11 ski resorts in the Western USA will stay-open, or re-open for the 4th of July ‘Independence Day’ weekend in a week’s time according to www.skiinfo.co.uk
Some of the resorts have stayed open to July 4th before, but never so many at once, with so much snow remaining from last winter.
The resorts are spread across five states and benefitted from huge snowfalls throughout last winter leaving them with giant snow

The start of the ski seasons at dozens of southern hemisphere resorts in Argentina, Chile and new Zealand have now been delayed by warm temperatures preventing snow making and a lack of natural snowfall.
In Argentina, the largest resort of Catedral at Baroloche, already facing problems with volcanic ash from a nearby erupting volcano, has delayed opening due to a snow shortage.
