Skiing Queenstown Gets More Affordable With Pacific Blue Announcing Direct Flights ex Sydney (17-Jun-09)

Queenstown, New Zealand, June 17, 2009 - Low cost airline Pacific Blue has announced

Low cost airline Pacific Blue has announced that they will be flying directly from Sydney to Queenstown from 5 September, operational on Tuesday's and Saturday's, making access to Queenstown’s premier mountains Coronet Peak and The Remarkables all the more affordable. 

With the new flights commencing early September there will still be plenty of snow on the slopes for skiers and boarders keen to head up to the mountains before the resorts close in October

After a slow start, two of Australia's leading ski resorts are reporting positive times this past week.

Perisher opened its Mt Perisher slopes over the past week with reports of conditions being "the best in a decade" following a dump of 58cm since last Sunday.

And with Perisher's $19 million snowmaking expansion, the resort was able to open Towers Run for skiing and boarding on Saturday the 13th.

Queenstown is gearing up for the opening of its youngest ski area, The Remarkables on Saturday June 20.

Conditions at the ski area are looking good for opening day due to exceptional May snowfall topped up by snowmaking over the last couple of weeks, according to Ross Lawrence, Ski Area Manager.

Mr Lawrence said that locals had been visiting the ski area since the first snow fell in May.
