Sunday evening marked the EARLIEST SNOWMAKING EVER at Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort!

As a cold front blew through the region, overnight temperatures at the ski area dropped down to 20 degrees.


Sun Valley Gets 17" From First Snowstorm (05-Oct-09)

Sun Valley, USA, October 5, 2009 - Sun Valley's first snowstorm

Sun Valley’s first snowstorm of the 74th winter season brought 17 inches to the top of Baldy.

The snow fell over a 24-hour period and another one to three inches is expected through noon today.

Sun Valley Resort expects to open the ski season Thanksgiving Day, however, this date could be pushed up should early snowstorms continue.

Lake Wanaka brought a successful winter season to a close at the weekend with all four resorts, Treble Cone, Snow Park NZ, Cardrona Alpine Resort and Snow Farm, reporting excellent visitor numbers, great snow conditions throughout and many successful world-class events.

For Cardrona Alpine Resort 2009 was a record breaker for both visitor numbers and accumulated snowfall. Winter started early with a huge snowfall in May.

The cold temperatures coupled with over 20 cm of fresh snow created mid-season conditions for Treble Cone’s Closing Day. The low snow fall around Wanaka helped to motivate locals back up to the hill for their last powder turns of the 2009 season. 

The skiing and snowboarding community came fully kitted out in the retro ski gear for the fancy dress theme.

Several centimetres of snow fell overnight and there is much more in the weekend forecast. With the early arrival of wintery weather in the mountains, skiers and riders are gearing up for the winter ahead; Panorama is too. 

In time for last season, Panorama Mountain Village built the Showoff Terrain Park alongside the Mile 1 Quad. This new freestyle terrain was quickly labeled by visiting pros as the biggest and best in the Rockies.


Delta Continues Non-Stop US Air Service To The Kootenay Rockies (04-Oct-09)

Kimberley, BC, October 4, 2009 - Delta values the tourism treasures

Delta values the tourism treasures of the Kootenay Rockies Region of British Columbia so will continue non-stop service to Canadian Rockies International Airport (YXC) starting December 19, 2009 from Salt Lake City (SLC). The short, two hour flight will be available weekly on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday until March 28, 2010.

The Canadian Rockies International Airport is one of the few airports in British Columbia serviced directly from a major US airport hub.

The 2009 Snowboard and Freeski Junior Nationals got underway today at Cardrona Alpine Resort with the K2 Big Mountain Ski qualifiers, the Sessions Skier Cross and Smith Snowboard Giant Slalom (GS).
