Mt Hotham Increases Snowmaking Output (18-May-10)

Mt Hotham, Australia, May 18, 2010 - Australia's Hotham ski area

Australia’s Hotham ski area has invested $1.7M in new snowmaking for the coming southern hemisphere ski season, to increase the ski area’s output capacity by 40 percent.

22 new TechnoAlpin fan snowguns have been installed on hydrant points throughout the Heavenly Valley snowmaking system.

The 2009-10 ski season at Sunshine Village near Banff in Alberta, Canada is still going for another week at least to Monday 24th. Currently 9 lifts and 60 runs are operational with a 135cm (4.5 foot) base.

Sunshine will hold its second annual Bikinis for Breast Cancer  event on Saturday (May 22) to raise funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

A cold snap has delivered a dump of 10cm of snow on Canterbury’s favourite ski area, Mt Hutt, overnight (Sunday May 16).

Ski Area Manager, Dave Wilson, says the high country ski area was likely to be on the receiving end of more snow throughout the week.

“It’s great to see a dump of wet snow that should stick around and help create a good base.

Today the “3 Wise Men” as we call the tower mounted snow guns on Main St were lifted into place by helicopter and a third snow groomer arrived to provide increased grooming capacity and security for this winter.
