WHISTLER, B.C. December 13, 2010 – Whistler Blackcomb’s annual “Dress like Santa Day” takes place this Sunday, December 19. A free lift ticket will be awarded to the first 50 people to arrive at the base of Whistler Mountain in full Santa or Mrs. Claus attire.

To qualify, skiers and snowboarders must arrive dressed in their very best Santa or Mrs. Claus costume.  The costume must include red or black pants or a skirt for Mrs.

A snow storm a week before Lake Tahoe in California’s Alpine Meadows ski resort opened for the season left 8.5 feet (2.5m) of new snow at mid mountain making it the largest single storm to be recorded in November in the resort’s history.

“The mountain changed literally overnight,” said Rachael Woods, spokesperson for Alpine Meadows Ski Resort. “We’re thrilled with the snow conditions.

Three of Scotland’s five ski areas were open this weekend thanks in part to the low temperatures and the fresh snow that has fallen over the past few days.

Cairngorm had been open for several weekends already with limited unpisted terrain but it now offering a fully groomed run from top to bottom and has opened additional lifts as well as more terrain.

The two other Easterly ski areas, Glenshee and the Lecht also opened some terrain.
