Kumi Yama Returns to Les 2 Alpes in July (24-May-11)

Les 2 Alpes, which operates Europe’s largest summer ski area...

Les 2 Alpes, which operates Europe’s largest summer ski area, this year from 18th June to 28th August, has announced the return of its Kumi Yama event in July; one of the biggest on snow contests of the summer.

A major snowsports event: Kumi Yama runs from 1st – 3rd July. The only major snowboard meet of the summer in France brings together the whole freestyle world, including professionals and stars, all in a friendly, Japanese-themed atmosphere.

A new gondola has been installed at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in China...

A new gondola has been installed at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in China, the world’s highest
ski area. It’s the second gondola to be installed at the site by Leitner, who completed the original lift in 1999. The new gondola runs using the same support towers as the original lift up to its top station at 4506m. Unusually however the new cabins, which are eight passenger rather than the six passenger originals, runs below the old lift on a separate, lower cable.

Montgenèvre plans to become the only resort in the Southern Alps....

Montgenèvre plans to become the only resort in the Southern Alps and one of only 30 in Europe to offer lift accessed skiing over 3,000m.

An entire 3000m ski area has been created around Mount-Chaberton on the French/Italian border to offer skiing for all levels and a long new blue run from 3000m downwards.

Skiers will be able to enjoy 360° panoramic views from Mont Ventoux to Mont-Blanc, from the
Rhône to the river Pô from the top

A new and improved full transport system will launch in Queenstown this winter....

A new and improved full transport system will launch in Queenstown this winter to encourage skiers and boarders to “ride and relax”.

Three brand new custom-designed 4WD buses are joining the Snowline service this year making it easy and hassle-free to get to either Coronet Peak or The Remarkables ski areas.

The investment takes the 4WD bus count to nine and increases the entire fleet to over 20.

Killington in Vermont has announced a $6.5 million spend ahead of winter 2011-12 season. Much of the money is going on a new restaurant, following the removal this spring of the Peak Lodge from the 4,100 foot level of Killington Peak, although this won’t be completed until the start of winter 2012-13.
