Perisher Blue, NSW, July 1, 2008 - The long awaited snowfalls have finally arrived in a big way

The long awaited snowfalls have finally arrived in a big way! The falls began at 2.30pm yesterday and have continued throughout much of today, adding further cover to the slopes and bringing smiles to the faces of snow lovers around the resort. The highest recorded temperature in the Village was 0 degrees Celsius today, so certainly some very chilly conditions! At present the cover is quite dry and there are even some powdery pockets out there.

The long awaited snowfalls have finally arrived and hopes are buoying amongst holidaymakers and snow lovers. As at 10.30am, Perisher Blue had received 15cm of fresh snow since 2.30pm Monday 30 June, blanketing the runs and leaving the resort looking wintry and white! Coupled with 77 snowmaking guns, which fired up across parts of Perisher Valley, Blue Cow and Smiggin Holes, the snow cover is looking good. Further snowfalls, down to 1200 metres, are expected over the next couple of days.

A southerly storm has dropped 25 – 30 centimetres of fresh snow on the slopes of Mt Hutt in the lead up to the ski area’s Saturday June 14 opening.

Ski Area Manager Dave Wilson says the wintry blast has transformed Mt Hutt, Methven and surrounding areas into a winter wonderland.

Yesterday, the Whistler Mountain Bike Park opened the highly anticipated Garbanzo Zone, kicking the summer season into high gear.  With the lower park open since May 17, the addition of the Garbanzo Zone puts the Whistler Mountain Bike Park in full swing.
