Mt Hutt, NZ, August 4, 2008 - As Mt Hutt enjoys its best snow season

As Mt Hutt enjoys its best snow season in possibly fifteen years, its International Race Training Arena is attracting international ski racers and along with them, an international sponsor.

Mt Hutt is gearing up for its first intake of ski racers including overall 2007 World Champion Aksel Lund Svindal who’s due to arrive this week, back from a horrific crash at the Birds of Pray Downhill in Vail Colorado last year.

One of the three remaining one-man chairlift in Austria’s Skiwelt, the country’s largest lift-linked ski area, was shut down last week to make way for construction of a second new gondolas for the area ahead of next winter.

Two metres of soft fresh new snow over the past week made for tough racing conditions on Saturday for the first race in the Landrover Mt Hutt Masters.

Almost one hundred competitors at Mt Hutt had to contend with very soft snow during the Giant Slalom.

The storm that has troubled the rest of the country has dumped 1 meter of fresh snow at Mt Hutt causing anticipation among the region’s skiers and boarders while keeping staff busy on the end of shovels.

When the weather clears, as it’s predicted to do over the weekend, Mt Hutt visitors can expect awesome powder conditions according to ski area manager Dave Wilson.

For the first time, skiers and riders flying from the U.S.A. will have fast and convenient access to Panorama Mountain Village.  

As of December 17th, Delta Airlines will fly direct from Salt Lake City to the new Canadian Rockies International Airport, in Cranbrook, B.C. With this new service in place, over 65 million travelers from across the United States can now fly to the Kootenay Rockies region within less than half a day.


Snowboarder Rescued After Night In The Cold (29-Jul-08)

Mt Hutt, NSW, July 29, 2008 - A snowboarder has survived a cold night in the open

A snowboarder has survived a cold night in the open just below Mt Hutt Ski Area after getting lost in deteriorating weather yesterday (Tues July 29).

The alarm was raised when the man, who is a French national, failed to turn up to work at around 6.00pm.  Ski area manager Dave Wilson said a rescue plan was immediately mounted.
