On Thursday 28th August, 33 participants from around Australia battled it out at Perisher Blue in the hope of setting a world record for the longest ever rail slide on skis. The Salomon Rail Slide, the first ever ski event of its kind, was a huge success attracting a large and enthusiastic crowd to the Resort's Front Valley.
Local Jindabyne skier Miles Clark set a new world record during the preliminary rounds, with an impressive grind of 54.6m.

Coronet Peak, NZ, August 28, 2008 - Volkswagen National Team members went head-to-head
Volkswagen National Team members went head-to-head in their bid for the men’s national giant slalom honours at the Volkswagen National Ski Championships at Coronet Peak today, with Mark Bridgwater 22 (Chistchurch) just edging out Tim Cafe 21 (Queenstown), to win the 2008 title.
Bridgwater clocked 1.37.32 to Cafe’s 1.37.48 to finish sixth overall in the international field, recording his best ever result to lower his world ranking.

Day pass purchasers for The Remarkables ski area in Queenstown can enjoy free transport to up to the mountain for the month of September.
Skiers and boarders will be transported on The Remarkables Express, the ski area’s new shuttle service, from the Station building in downtown Queenstown direct to the slopes.

Perfect conditions marked the final day of the K Cup Regionals Alpine Race at Mt Hutt yesterday resulting in blistering times.
Athletes, aged from 11 -14, capitalised on the excellent racing conditions to record fast finishes in the Super G, Giant Slalom and Slalom events.
Mt Hutt Ski Area Manager Dave Wilson said a high calibre of athletes and great conditions enhanced the competition.

Twenty-one-year-old Volkswagen National Team member Tim Cafe (Queenstown) put in a solid performance in an international field, to finish second equal overall and win the national title, at the Volkswagen National Ski Championships Super G at Coronet Peak today.
Cafe and Olivier Jenot 20 from Monaco tied for second place in 1.10.38 behind winner Niklas Rainer 25 of Sweden who won the gold medal in 1.09.57.

The 26th anniversary of Perisher Blue's iconic Pub to Pub Cross-Country Classic (the 'Pub to Pub') is fast approaching. Over the past 26 years, the Pub to Pub has been unleashed at Perisher Blue, filling the Resort with colour, fun and energy as well as bringing a new meaning to the sport of cross-country skiing.
The Pub to Pub, which started in 1983 with just five competitors, has now evolved into an annual event attracting up to 500 entrants.
