Poking into the Atlantic and topping out at 550 metres (1,803 feet), New Jersey's geography isn't the most naturally suited to skiing and snowboarding. The state gets plenty of precipitation during winter months, but with not much of that falling as snow, nearby New York (with all its resorts) is possibly a more logical choice for snowheads looking to get up high.
That said, if you get favourable conditions, there are three ski resorts in New Jersey you should know about, especially if you're new to skiing or snowboarding - Campgaw Mountain, Hidden Valley and Mountain Creek.
Mountain Creek is the largest of the three, offering 46 trails, 170 skiable acres and a 320 metre (1,040 feet) vertical. Hidden Valley has about a quarter of that, while the little Campgaw has just five trails, 18 skiable acres and an 83 metre (270 feet) vertical.
If you do get decent snow, there's some beautiful terrain for backcountry skiing in Wawayanda State park.
