Nestled up against the Mediterranean and bordering Spain, the Languedoc-Roussillon region is more famous for wine than anything else. But the Eastern Pyrenees also have some pretty decent skiing. It's up to you whether you mix the two.
The ski fields over this side of the country aren't as extensive as the slick resorts of the Alps, but it's that low-key charm that attracts people to the Pyrenees. Being right on the Med, the best conditions tend to be in late January and February, before the sun starts turning things to mush. There's a real range of resorts, from Mosset, the smallest ski station in the world, to Les Angeles - with great après ski and 31-odd pistes.
