Israel
It might not be an obvious choice for a holiday in the snow, not least because you'd expect it to be too warm. But Mount Hermon is covered with snow for most of the year round, making it possible to go skiing and snowboarding in Israel.
Mount Hermon is the only ski resort in Israel and it's not particularly high. But if you can tolerate your descents being a little briefer than normal, there's a good range of terrain and some decent off-piste for more experienced riders.
The resort has all the normal facilities including ski hire and tuition. You can't stay on the mountain itself, but there are hotels and bars and restaurants at the nearby village of Neve Ativ.
The ski season in Israel runs from December to April with the best snow usually found in February.
Cost
A one-day adult lift pass at Mount Hermon costs around US$60.
Getting here
Transfers or car hire are available from Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion International Airport.
