Heavy Snowfalls In The Last 24 Hours Have Pushed The Snow Depth To A Meter In The Village Bowl At Falls Creek (10-Jul-08)

Falls Creek, Victoria, July 10, 2008 - Heavy snowfalls in the last 24 hours have pushed the snow depth

Heavy snowfalls in the last 24 hours have pushed the snow depth to a metre in the Village Bowl at Falls Creek.

This is a significant milestone for Victoria's largest alpine resort and it has taken place during one of the resort's busiest weeks of the winter season.

Another significant event at the alpine resort is the intention to open the iconic Summit chairlift today which will provide access to an extensive array of intermediate and more challenging snow-covered slopes.

This week has been one of the most memorable in the resort's quest to satisfy the thousands of school-aged guests. It has had an unbelievable sequence of sub zero daytime (and overnight) temperatures which has resulted in a cover of light dry snow often found in the mega northern hemisphere alpine resorts.

This morning it was a chilly -4.5C and even more snow is forecast to fall before the weekend.

With the planned opening of quite a number of ski lifts today it will be a powder paradise for skiers and boarders.
