Emilia-Romagna is in the north of Italy, stretching pretty much from one side of the country to the other - from the Adriatic to the Med. Bologna is the capital of the region, though it's the city of Modena and its links with the prancing horse that captures the imagination of many visitors.
With the Alps a little further north, the geography here is less dramatic and tends to limit the max vertical to a few hundred metres. The handful of resorts in Emilia-Romagna's Alpennines are small and most would struggle to keep you entertained for a week. The possible exception is Abetone (which Tuscany also lays claim to), which is accessible from four different valleys and has 37 slopes, around 25 lifts, a couple of cross country trails and snow-making facilities.
