Dream Conditions For Skiers And Riders At Mt Hutt (24-Jul-08)

Mt Hutt, NZ, July 24 2008 - 90 centimetres of fresh snow

90 centimetres of fresh snow at Mt Hutt over the past 48 hours holds a tantalizing promise for skiers and riders planning to visit the high country ski area this weekend.

Mt Hutt Ski Area Manager Dave Wilson said the fresh snow had added to an already good base and he expected snow conditions would be fantastic when the weather cleared.

“We’re having a great season and to have this fresh dump is simply brilliant, we’re all set for the rest of the season now,” he said. “We’re looking forward to one of those magic powder days as soon as we can get the mountain open which we hope will be tomorrow (26 July).”

Mr Wilson said the forecast was for more settled weather tomorrow.

“We have nearly 100 staff working on the mountain getting everything ready for a great day,” he said.

“The lift system requires extensive work after a big snow dump like this one but we’ll be starting up the lifts as soon as we can,” he added.
