The resorts in Dalarna County in central Sweden offer skiing and snowboarding on a relatively modest scale, but there's a decent range of terrain all the same.

 

Two resorts of note include Bjursas and Idre Fjäll. Bjursas is small and personal and best suited to beginners and families, as well as those looking for peace and quiet. There's a reasonable 16 slopes to play with here, but with a maximum vertical of less than 200 metres, there's not much in the way of death-defying drops (which of course you wouldn't want if you were setting out on your first snow plough). With a drop of 307 metres, Idre Fjäll is a little more challenging. It also has over 40 pistes and a decent terrain park complete with halfpipe.
