Whistler Rated NO.5 In Ski Magazines Top 10 Family Friendly Resorts (17-Feb-11)

85 centimeters of snowfall in the last 7 days inspires kids to get outdoors and active.

WHISTLER, BC, February 14, 2011 – Whistler Blackcomb has been ranked No. 5 in the SKI Magazine reader’s poll for best family friendly resorts; making it the only Canadian ski resort in the top 10 list. With a number of on-mountain programs geared towards children, designated ‘Family Zones’ and Whistler lodging packages where kids ski free, Whistler Blackcomb is a great place to get kids outdoors and active while on vacation.

“Our goal at Whistler Blackcomb is to create the best memories again and again,” says Donna Kerr, General Manager of Whistler Kids. “Our staff love to teach kids and their focus is to promote learning in an environment rich with encouragement and friendship. We believe in exposing children to skiing and snowboarding at an early age and with programs available to kids as young as three years old, our hope is to inspire children to love skiing and snowboarding for life.”

March in Whistler, BC is family month and to celebrate Whistler Blackcomb will be offering family friendly accommodation packages where kids will be able to ski, stay and rent free. To make planning easier, Whistler Blackcomb has also launched a new family focused page at which showcases kid friendly activities such as:

The Coca-Cola Tube Park located in the Base 2 Zone on Blackcomb Mountain. The Tube Park offers eight lanes varying in difficulty from green to blue to black and a state-of-the-art conveyor lift that makes traveling to the top a breeze. The Coca-Cola Tube Park is opened until 8pm daily and has a minimum height restriction of 36”. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

The Magic Castle on Blackcomb and Tree Fort on Whistler are great for families to check out while taking a break from exploring the mountain. These structures are accessible by green runs and give kids the option of taking off their skis and snowboards to go play inside. The Magic Castle and Tree Fort are free and fun for all ages.

Kids Adventure Camps are three to five day programs jam packed with fun events and activities. Children are put into groups based on ability level and remain with the same instructor all week long. For families whose schedules do not allow for a week-long camp, there are also daily children’s lessons available any day of the week.

After a day on the mountain, Whistler Blackcomb offers a number of family friendly après and dining options. Located at the base of the mountains, Dusty’s in Creekside, The Garibaldi Lift Co. (GLC) in Whistler Village and Merlin’s in the Upper Village all welcome children until 8pm.
