The Altitude Festival @ Meribel, France - 28th March - 3rd April 2009 (04-Mar-09)

Meribel, France, March 4, 2009 -

Combining his love of both comedy and snowboarding Marcus Brigstocke and Andrew Maxwdell are delighted to announce the second Altitude Festival due to take place between the 28th March and the April 3rd 2009.

Last year saw great powder skiing by day and fabulous entertainment by night (featuring Phil Jupitus, Lee Mack, Jenny Éclair, Rich Hall, US hip hop band Ugly Duckling, DJ’s Brandon Block, Norman Jay, Ministry of Sound, Hed Kandi). 14 000 audiences were thrilled by the best après ski ever!

The only festival of its kind it will take place in fabulous skiers paradise that is Les trois vallees – the largest skiing area in the world - right in the heart of the French alps, (predominantly Meribel but also in Val Thorens and Courcheval), this is a fantastic fusion of some of the best UK, French and international comics performing every evening, stellar DJ’s and fabulous established and up and coming bands - this is the one festival of the season that truly shouldn’t be missed.

Some of the acts scheduled to take part include KT Tunstall, Marcus Brigstocke, Ardal O’hanlon,  Andrew Maxwell, 2007 if.comedy winner Phil Nichol. Once again Altitude will attempt comedy shows in French and English at the same time – the only festival in the world to attempt and succeed in this feat of linguistic ingenuity!

If this isn’t enough, you will be able to ski all day in beautiful warm spring conditions, often catch an acoustic gig up a mountain or in a gondola, catch a comedy film, ski down at the end of the day right into the main stage area, or indeed watch or take part in some of the most exciting SnowSports events of the season. Coinciding with the festival will be the The British Ski Championships, to be held in Meribel and Boarder X and Big Air competitions which are sure to attract board pros from around the world as well as more relaxed snow competitions including three legged ski races, snowball fights and expression sessions.

The festival is also very aware of the environmental impact skiing has so it aims to be the first carbon neutral festival. All of Meribel’s ski lifts are powered hydro electrically. People are being encouraged to travel to the festival by train. The nearest station to Meribel is Brides des Bains and is about twenty minutes in a cable car or taxi away from the resort.
