Sugarloaf Adds A Quad (04-Sep-11)

Following on from the 270-acre Brackett Basin expansion on Burnt Mountain, Sugarloaf in Maine has a new state-of-the-art quad chairlift in place for next winter, replacing the existing Spillway chairlifts. Built by Doppelmayr, this will be the fastest fixed-grip lift on the market.

Rugged Maine boasts the longest ski season east of the Rockies and Sugarloaf is usually open until May. Although the snowmaking provides excellent back-up, the Pine Tree State is all about natural snow. Sugarloaf is marketed as ‘The King of Spring’ with its 2,820 foot vertical drop and skiing above the tree-line – unusual un New England.

“March is a great time to visit,” says Greg Sweetser of Ski Maine (www.skimaine.com), which
represents 18 ski areas. “This is where reigning Olympic champions like Seth Westcott grew up, and where future Olympic champions train, so we must be doing something right!”
