Sochi Looks To Guarantee Snow For 2014 As Second January Starts “Snow Free” (17-Jan-11)

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has said that one of the big challenges for the coming Sochi Olympics....

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has said that one of the big challenges for the coming Sochi Olympics, due to start in just over three year, is to guarantee snow cover.

“We need to settle a variety of issues, including the issue of snow. For the second year the winter here is essentially snow-free in January. And although the Olympics are held at other time period, we need to make sure that we have no problems that Vancouver faced last year,” he told a press conference at Rosa Khutor ski resort, one of the newly-built Olympic venues.

President Medvedev said that it was also important that development looked beyond the Olympics themselves to ensure the legacy of the Games was a world class winter sports recreation complex that attracted guests from around the world.

The 2014 Winter Olympics, the twenty second Games, will be staged between February 7 to
February 23, 2014 in Sochi. Alpine skiing will take place at Rosa Khutor Alpine Resort and there’ll be a Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard Park for other on snow downhill sports disciplines.
