Snowmaking Starts At Panorama Mountain Village (11-Oct-09)
Panorama Mountain Village, B.C, Friday, October 9, 2009 - After significant early snow
After significant early snow, the weather at Panorama is clearing and snowmaking for the 2009/10 winter season is underway.
More than 20 centimetres of natural snow settled at the summit over the past few days and the resort is covered from top to bottom. With temperatures now as low as minus 10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit) and frigid weather forecast to persist for several days, Panorama’s mountain operations crew decided to push forward the start of snowmaking. This start is a week earlier than last year and one of the earliest since snowmaking began on the mountain in the late eighties. By the end of Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, Panorama expects machines to be working at capacity on trails like Old Timer, Hay Fever and Horseshoe.
Panorama Mountain Village opens for the winter season on Friday, December 11, 2009. Before that date, the Canadian Alpine Ski Team will be joined by many of the world’s best racers in preparation for the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic games, hosted by Intrawest sister-resort, Whistler Blackcomb.
