Snow Ski Then Jet-Ski On The Same Day In California on 4th July Weekend (19-Jun-11)

As a result of a record-breaking winter season in California, several resorts will remain open or re- open for skiing and snowboarding from 2nd to 4th July 2011, the US Independence Day weekend.

Visitors to Tahoe and Mammoth can therefore take advantage of a rare opportunity to hit the slopes for half a day and then jump on a mountain bike, jet-ski or wakeboard… the ultimate multi-activity holiday. For a slightly lower adrenaline rush, there’s also golf, fishing, hiking and kayaking available.

Mammoth Mountain has stayed open for the July holiday weekend for four out of the last seven seasons but this year has seen epic snow conditions and Mammoth’s largest snowfall ever.

Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows in Tahoe have only operated at limited capacity in the past but with phenomenal spring conditions that have lasted into the summer, and snow still falling at the end of May and beginning of June, both Tahoe resorts will have more lifts open this year.

Mammoth Mountain has received more snow this season than ever before, over 16m / 650 inches, and they currently have a snow depth of 2.4 to 4.8m. Conditions for the 4th July weekend are looking promising and there will be celebrations all weekend at The Village at Mammoth.

The festivities include fireworks, a parade, a free concert with a live 45-piece orchestra, BBQ’s and a fun run for anyone looking for an extra bit of exercise. The 18-hole Sierra Star Golf Course is the highest course in California and will be open from 17th June and the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park opens on 24th June.

An all-time record of 17m / 700 inches of snow fell in Squaw Valley in north Lake Tahoe this season and as a result they have announced they will open five major lifts (runs to be announced nearer the time) and anyone buying a lift ticket will be given a free commemorative t-shirt.

Over the Independence Day weekend there will be pool parties, live music, fireworks, Fine Arts & Crafts Festival and the 21st annual Lake Cushing Crossing. The Lake Cushing Crossing was moved from May, after fresh snow fell, making this the first ever summertime pond crossing. This challenge involves skiers and riders attempting to skim across the vast, frozen waters of Lake Cushing on skis or snowboard. Renowned for colossal crashes and outlandish costumes this is a great spectator sport. The Resort at Squaw Creek’s 18-hole championship golf course is set to open on 23rd June and jet-skiing, wakeboarding, kayaking and parasailing on Lake Tahoe are all on offer now.

Remarkably, July ski holiday packages from the UK are currently on offer! Ski World
