Ski The Arctic Circle This May (27-Feb-11)

For a wholly different holiday Kaluma have teamed up....

For a wholly different holiday Kaluma have teamed up with Mountain Guide, Graham Austick, and his team, to offer the opportunity to ski on the fantastic mountains of the Lyngen Alps, in the Arctic Circle in Norway right through until May. The lodge is located in an area that allows for skiing from summit to the seashore but be aware that ski touring is a sport for experienced skiers with a high level of fitness.

You’ll be staying at the luxurious Lyngen Lodge, right on the eastern shore of the Lyngen Fjord. The lodge comes complete with hot tubs, a private chef and stunning views of the surrounding mountains, glaciers and impressive peaks. Catering for up to 18 people, the food at this fantastic lodge has a unique Norwegian Coastal twist to it and the fully stocked bar can be enjoyed throughout your stay. The lodge has 8 en suite rooms with triple and single options available and will be your base camp and relaxation retreat for the action packed week ahead.

From the jetty of the lodge, the “The Spirit of Lyngen” boat will take you across the Fjord to the snow covered shore, at the base of one of the region’s 60 peaks. The adventure continues on skins and touring skis, where you will make your way up to one of the summits, offering stunning, 360 degree and unforgettable views. Glaciers, open powder fields, tree lined and forest skiing are ahead of you. Once at the top, having relaxed, recouped and refuelled the real fun begins!

With descents of up to 2kms you can ski in fresh untouched snow, with breath taking views of the sea in front of you. Arriving after a fresh descent to snow covered beaches is something very special and a unique experience you can only enjoy in this part of the world
