School Holidays Kick Off To Heaps OF Fresh Powder At Treble Cone (28-Sep-08)

Treble Cone, NZ, September 28, 2008 - Treble Cone Ski Area lies blanketed in snow

Treble Cone Ski Area lies blanketed in snow after today’s big dump. 20 cm of fresh snow fell at the base area in 5 hours from 7am this morning and the forecast is for snow to continue during the day. The ski area opened this morning but was forced to close due to the extremely heavy snow falls.

Ski Area Manager Jackie van der Voort said “with the school holidays beginning this week the new snow has come at a perfect time. It has been a great season so far and this will see us through to the end season in style”. Treble Cone is scheduled to close for the 2008 winter season this Sunday 5th October.

Marketing Manager Anna Thomas says a celebratory day is lined up for holiday makers, school holiday visitors, season pass holders, and staff to enjoy their last turns for the season next Sunday.

Local group The Hip Replacement Band will provide funky live music from 11:30am, followed by the annual Jose Guervo Slush Cup event on the Platter from 1:30pm. The Slush Cup requires skiers and boarders to bomb down the platter and water ski across a custom built trough of water. Some make the distance and the ones that don’t end up rather wet. It’s a great event and a fantastic spectator sport says Mrs Thomas

“Traditionally the last day of the season at Treble Cone is always celebrated in fancy dress also, which provides lots of laughs for ski and snowboard enthusiasts”, says Mrs Thomas.

The current snow base is now 160cm in the Saddle Basin and the Home basin is back at the 1 meter mark. Treble Cone’s Saddle Basin currently offers the best skiing and snowboarding conditions in the Southern Lakes due to its higher altitude and south facing cooler slopes.
