Perisher's 2009 Season Off To A Great Start! (08-Jun-09)
Perisher, Australia - June 8 2009 - Mother Nature has come to the party at Perisher
Mother Nature has come to the
party at Perisher delivering timely snowfalls to the resort. 21cm of fresh snow
settled in the village overnight and across Perisher's four mountain areas,
allowing top to bottom skiing and snowboarding on Front Valley for Monday, the
final day of the Opening Weekend Celebrations and Snowy Mountains of Music
(SMOM) festival.
Light snow flurries began to settle in the resort
throughout Sunday and as the mercury levels continued to drop overnight,
Perisher's Mountain Operations Department fired up 95 snow guns across parts of
Perisher Valley and Blue Cow Mountain adding to the growing base.
This
enabled the Village Eight Express, Australia's only 8-seat chairlift to make its
season debut today, capping off a great weekend for all.
For the long
weekend, Perisher was the only Australian ski resort to have lifts in
operation!
On top of the welcomed snowfalls, Perisher's inaugural SMOM
festival proved to be a great success and was well received by guests to the
resort. It is now on the agenda to be part of future season
launches.
Being given the chance to catch a variety of entertainment and
kids activities, guests to Perisher were spoilt with options over the Queen's
birthday long weekend.
"It has been a fantastic start to the season. Not
only did we have a great selection of acts preform at the Snowy Mountains of
Music festival but we've also had fresh snowfalls. Guests have flocked to the
resort in the thousands and we've sold hundreds of lesson and lift packages,"
commented Nathan Butterworth Perisher's Resort Services Manager.
The
SMOM festival kicked-off on Saturday 6 June with the traditional Blessing of the
Snow on Saturday morning at Perisher's All Denominational Church. Following, a
great selection of bands and kids acts performed at a number of venues around
the resort and throughout the long weekend. Festival highlights included the
Aria Award winning band The Audreys and rock-star Tex Perkins. Highlights for
the kids included, a jumping castle, carnival rides and a chance to meet
Perisher's very own Professor Nugget and friends.
"The Snowy Mountains
of Music festival has been a great success. Ticket sales were good, the gigs
went off without a hitch and guests have been raving about the plethora of acts
on offer. We hope to grow on this years' success in 2010," commented SMOM
festival co-ordinator Belinda Shore.
The SMOM festivities may have come
to a close but the season is only just getting underway. Perisher has a great
selection of events and entertainment on offer this season and with cooler
temperatures and natural snowfalls forecast to continue for the next few days
(lowering to 800 metres on Wednesday 10 June), Perisher is off to a great start
to the 2009 season.
Come up and enjoy the fresh snowfalls. Perisher has some great packages and deals on offer, for details call Guest Services on 1300 655 822 or log onto www.perisher.com.au. Contact Perisher Snow Holidays on 1300 655 811 and book your snow holiday today!
