NZSki Revolutionise Skiing Technology With All New Radio Frequency Card (18-Apr-10)

NZSki, New Zealand, April 18, 2010 - New Zealand's premiere South Island

New Zealand’s premier South Island Ski Areas of Coronet Peak, Mt Hutt and The Remarkables will this season be complimented with the world’s most technologically advanced, direct-to-lift ticketing system.

The Radio Frequency (RF) ID card is a fully integrated smart card that will replace the old ticket and wire system.  The new RF cards are the size of an average credit card, with a microchip inserted into them, allowing users the flexibility of loading products onto their card online, and then going directly to the lifts, rather than spending time queuing for customer service.

The cards can be worn in a ski jacket pocket and once at the lift gates, will automatically be scanned to allow access through, as long as they have a valid pass.

The new system is similar to those already installed in many North American and European ski areas, however the NZSki system will be the world’s first fully integrated, stored value card.  It’s not only used for lift pass access, but also rentals and ski school and, in future, food and beverage.

Card holders can link the radio frequency card to their own credit card, and purchase whichever items they choose.

The card itself is free and will be fully re-usable year after year.  Guests also have the option to reload additional NZSki product on a daily basis via one of the on-mountain kiosks, computer or smart phone locations.

Not only does the new card allow for more convenience and seamless lift access, it’ll also track the number of runs and the vertical metres each user has covered on any given day, in real time.
