New Runs, New Gondola For Resort that Operates more Gondolas Than Any Other (10-Jul-11)
The Kronplatz ski area in Italy’s Dolomiti Superski region has announced....
The Kronplatz ski area in Italy’s Dolomiti Superski region has announced it will add a new gondola next winter taking its total to 22. Already operating more gondola lists than any other ski area on the planet, Krontplatz, which has 100km of runs, will also add a new 7km long run and has announced that it plans to speed up two of its existing gondolas while cutting the number of passengers in each cabin for added comfort. Despite the smaller cabin capacity, the extra speed will mean more cabins circulating, keeping the capacity rate per hour unchanged.
Construction works on the new 4.3km long "Ried" cable car (one of the world’s longest lifts) are already under way. It will be able to carry 3,200 passengers per hour in 10 person cabins with heated leather seats. The new 7km long "Ried" slope it serves will descend from 2275 m above sea level over a world-class 1,355 vertical metres to end at 935m above sea level. Skiers will now be able to conveniently use the train to access the ski area directly and no longer need to use the ski bus or self drive. There’s also a direct connection between Kronplatz and the neighbouring Sextner Dolomiten ski resort with trains running every 30 minutes.
A replacement of the Miara gondola will also be ready for next winter. Cabins are being changed to state of the art 8-seater gondolas (instead of the former 12-seater version). Thanks to an increase in travelling speed from 5 m/s to 6 m/s, the overall transport capacity remains unchanged but gains extra comfort.
Similarly for the Col Toron gondola by reducing the number of seats available in each gondola from 11 to 9 and at the same time increasing the travelling speed, comfort levels are improved significantly and the cable car’s overall transport capacity is raised to 2600 passengers per hour. A new alternative ski route is being created close to the "Schnapskurve" mountain restaurant.
Kronplatz operates more gondola lifts than any other ski area in the world. Saalbach in Austria is s and Meribel in France are joint second with 16 each.
